On Saturday, November 22, 2008, staff and family members from Progressive Engineering & Construction Inc.’s (Progressive) Tampa, FL office worked with more than 1,300 other volunteers as part of the Mayor’s Beautification Program cleanup event. The annual event is used to help spread the word about the negative effects of pollution on Hillsborough River and Tampa Bay and its potential impact on the quality of life we all enjoy. The outpouring of community support and enthusiasm of the volunteers helped to remove litter and invasive plants at many sites along the Hillsborough River and shoreline of Tampa Bay. Progressive’s team, assigned to work in Cypress Point Park located along Tampa Bay near the Howard Franklin Bridge, helped pick up more than a dozen garbage bags of trash and removed seven immature Brazilian Pepper trees. The team also competed against other volunteer teams in the Rally for the River Challenge and placed 6th.
Bridget Morello, Progressive’s President said her firm’s sponsorship and participation, “… was not only fun, but a great opportunity for Progressive to partner with the City of Tampa, become a true community steward and do something good for our environment.” Progressive’s staff shared in the excitement and intends to participate again next year.
