Groundwater Pump and Treat

Groundwater pump and treat systems are the oldest form of remedial technology applied, but continue to be an effective tool for plume containment and source area remediation. Groundwater is withdrawn from the aquifer via wells or trenches, treated in an above ground system, and discharged to a permitted surface water outfall, injection well, infiltration gallery, or other system for reuse. The degree and type of treatment depends upon the type of contaminants and the discharge option. Typical treatment technologies include: air stripping, carbon adsorption, oxidation processes, biological processes, reverse osmosis, ion exchange, and electrochemical precipitation. Capital and operation and maintenance costs are typically high, and these systems often reach asymptotic removal efficiencies limiting the ability to achieve cleanup objectives. next
