Off-Gas Treatment
Some treatment systems (e.g., soil vapor extraction, air sparging, groundwater pump and treat systems) require treatment of air streams prior to discharge to the atmosphere. Typical treatment technologies include: catalytic/thermal oxidation, carbon adsorption, biological and oxidation processes. Discharge permits may be required, and often involve modeling of receptor exposure. Capital and operation and maintenance costs are high, and in many cases off-gas treatment is only required for the initial periods of remediation when concentrations are highest.
